About The Innovation Brief
The Innovation Brief is a student-run blog at the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD), dedicated to promoting interest, critical thought, and academic discourse at the intersection of law and innovation. As humanity continues its march of innovation, the law evolves in step. This blog seeks to document these tussles as they happen, and shed light on how ethics, law, and policy has, and seeks to respond to scientific and technological progress.

The Innovation Brief’s logo draws inspiration from the ruins of the ancient amphitheatre of Sybaris, a once-prosperous Greek city-state celebrated for its wealth and opulence. As recorded by the historian Phylarchus in the 3rd century CE, Sybaris introduced a law granting chefs participating in the city-state's lavish annual feasts exclusive rights over their novel culinary inventions for a year. This is one of the earliest recorded forms of patent protection.

Societies continue to shape, and are shaped by, innovation. In this spirit, the Sybarian amphitheatre stands as a symbol of human ingenuity and the enduring relationship between law and innovation. Though Sybaris itself met a tragic end, its legacy survives in the principles that underpin modern intellectual property law. Echoing this ethos, The Innovation Brief seeks to chronicle and critically engage with the evolving dialogue between law, ethics, and technological advancement.
